The Long Tail, a critical 2.0 business model?

37 Signals organized a discussion about The Long Tail, what it is and how it is (or is it?) changing web-business models.  The discussion features Chris Anderson, author of The Long Tail and Editor of Wired; Dave Goldberg, General Manager of Yahoo Music; Bradley Horowitz, VP of Product Strategy at Yahoo and Tim Quirk, VP of Music Content and Programming at Rhapsody

The theory of the Long Tail is that our culture and economy is increasingly shifting away from a focus on a relatively small number of “hits” at the head of the demand curve and toward a huge number of niches in the tail. In this chat, the participants discuss the impact of the tail, mass amateurization, the role of reviews/recommendations, and how, in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 people.

Read the whole conversation from 37 Signals and explore the concept at the Whats New Media Wiki.
